DSLR  means Digital Single Lens Reflex. Basically a digital based camera where you look through the lens on the camera that will also be capturing the images.

These are a few reasons, why you should upgrade from an ordinary digital camera to a DSLR!

1. IMAGE QUALITY- due to the larger size of image sensors in DSLRs which allows for larger pixel image, which means a greater resolution for your picture. you'll spot even the tiniest dot. 

2.LOWER BATTERY CONSUMPTION- A DSLR is generally "asleep," consuming about the same battery power as a wristwatch until the shutter release is depressed.

3. BETTER AUTO FOCUS AND FAST- The auto focus on a D-SLR locks in quickly and is generally faster and more reliable than on a compact digital camera.
